Top 8 Reasons you should sell your Sony stock:

  1. PSP sales have started to drop.
  2. UMD - this technology never caught on. Its going the way of Betamax.
  3. Blueray/HD console war is going to bleed them.
  4. Sony rootkit fiasco - can’t control their software development quality.
  5. Sony hardly released any playable games at E3 gaming convention for the PS3.
  6. PS3 price - hard to swallow
  7. PS3 Production Problems - Sony projected 4mm consoles produced by end of year 2006, but Japanese brokerage Mitsubishi UJF Securities predicts major component shortages that will reduce sales by as much as a million units (or 25%).
  8. Sony battery recall - one after another the laptop manufacturers are recalling their Sony batteries creating PR hit after hit to Sony. This alone does not warrant selling the stock, but it will be expensive both in real money and negative PR. It doesn’t help when the company is about to launch a very expensive console to have quality doubts in the consumer’s mind. After all if you pay $80 for that new Lexus you probably wouldn’t if 4months back you read of the engine catching on fire.

Disclosure: I just bought a Jan 35 Put position on Sony for .65. I’ve got some kahonies betting against Sony right as its about to release its new console. Yeah. That’s right.

Pretty convincing facts but then alternatives are also sought at the same time :).

Would be good to see the options also. I can suggest one - XBox 360.

My put option is at .77 now up from .65 :o)

Can’t wait till the media writeups start about how the pricing and production problem is going to put a damper on PS3 sales.
