A Bright Idea: Blog push for CFL lighting

Seth Godi started a blog push for an environmental cause. He started a push to encourage people to use compact fluorescent light bulbs instead of the standard incandescent light bulbs.

There are the obvious benefits: saving money, lasts longer, use less energy. I’ve been using them for years now, but its not really due to the cost savings. I have everything on auto pay so I rarely even know what I’m paying. The main reason is they last longer. I hate changing bulbs and it seems like they always go out at the same time, well not at the exact same time. Usually they go out within a week or so so as to maximize the annoyance factor. And of course there’s always one in a hard-to-reach area that you are lucky not to break your neck while changing.

The old CFL’s used to flicker, but now you can’t really tell the difference. I like the brightness of the bulbs too. I don’t have a problem while reading books or anything. Any eye problems I have is strictly due to being on the computer all day. Some people think that the bulbs take too long to start. Well that problem is resolved.

Pretty soon well probably not very, but at some point LED lighting is going to take hold. It promises even longer life expectancy and flexibility in bulb design, turn on faster, and no flicker.
