Will the real iPhone please stand up?

In an earlier blog entry, I mentioned that Apple must’ve bought the rights to the iPhone moniker from Cisco. I knew that Cisco had the iPhone trademark and had released a product by the same name. One would think if you made quite a grand product announcement that you’d own the name. Turns out Apple did not own the name. Cisco in turn is suing Apple.

Why would Jobs do this? Apple created the iPod and turned the media player into 2 camps, iPod and something else. If you got something else for Christmas you know what I mean. I’ve owned a few something else’s and when I got my 1st iPod I understood what all the fuss was about. Revolutionizing usage, that’s what Apple does best. It understands the interaction between man and machine and it simplifies that which is… well not so simple.

For the iPhone, Apple will probably do the same. This time around is a bit different. After all no one can say that Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, et al are weak. There was no real strong players in the media market when Apple introduced the iPod. For the iPhone, the goal is the same however. There’s iPhone, then there’s something else.

Personally, I now realize that I’m tired of carrying something else around to make calls. 1 request Jobs - Can’t you make this thing a CDMA/GSM phone? 1 more innovation, that’s all I ask.

One more thing… I’m so glad the iPhone (the one that matters) resembles nothing like the Cisco/Linksys iPhone.
