Armed Forces for the 21st Century – More Troops – More War

I don’t know how I missed this. Oh yeah I do. I didn’t watch Bush’s address. I have bad feelings when I see this man ramble on.
In his speech Bush promised to
“increase the size of the active Army and Marine Corps, so that America has the armed forces we need for the 21st century.”
Is a draft in the cards? Where are all these troops going to come from? We can’t occupy the globe. Any nation occupied will in turn develop resentment for the occupier regardless of if things are better or not. In the end an uncomfortable freedom is after all freedom in the end.
I’m so glad I’m an import. That is, I moved here when I was 5, lived here for 27yrs of my life and frankly love America. However the path that the U.S. is going down makes me rethink living here. I have to wonder how long it will be before any foreigner is the enemy. Move down from Afghanistan and you have our questionable ally Pakistan (led by a dictator). Move down further and you have India. Remember Saddam? Please note that he was backed by the U.S. CIA. Eventually he became unfavorable to the U.S. I mean maniacs sometimes turn on you after all. What if our ally in Pakistan did the same? Would the U.S. attack them? It might be beneficial if they could take over India to? I mean you know if we had Iran, then we could control Iraq. If we had Syria… well you get the picture.
All I’m saying is this, how long, and how far will this go? I have a great deal of respect for any man/woman willing to serve in the military. Any man willing to die for his nation or walk into battle deserves it. I myself am human and I’m afraid to die. These men/women are the epitome of bravery. Those joining the military now know they will be going into battle. Overcoming your fear and moving forward is what courage is and these people have it.
I don’t however respect the reasons we are at war. I want to make that distinction. Afghanistan made sense, but why the hell are we in Iraq? Our own CIA says there was no link.
My heart goes out to every person that’s lost someone in the “War on Terrorism” and equally to those that have been separated from their loved ones while they serve their nation.
Live Free or Die Hard [that's the new Die Hard sequel, but it is a powerful phrase don't you think?] – This is not something that you find on a bracelet. Rather it is something that resonates in the hearts and souls of our soldiers.
