Excellent article about why corn syrup is bad for you. I noticed that when I travel overseas I tend to eat more. Its part of traveling really. One thing that has perplexed me is that I never gain weight while traveling overseas. During domestic travel however I always gain an incredible amount of weight with what seems to be no effort at all. In fact after my last overseas trip, my watch was sliding around loose. Within a week of being back to the U.S. it was more taught. Within 2 weeks, it became snug. Eating as I did overseas in the U.S. somehow was not suitable to my waistline.
The main difference that I can tell is that overseas sugar usage is prevalent as a sweetener. In the U.S. high-fructose corn syrup is the sweetener of choice. Sugar is more natural and broken down easier. I’ve known that for years and I suspected that was the main cause of the quick weight. However this article points out some other bad properties of HFCS that is worth a read.
