How much vacation do you get? Entitled holidays across the globe

What does this graph tell you? Well for one, that’s a very nicely organized beach resort. Second – in the U.S. we are not legally entitled to any holiday. Yes, your company can technically make you work on Christmas, New Years, Thanksgiving, etc. Obviously most companies will provide vacation to their employees. Interestingly countries such as Britain also commonly go beyond the government mandates and provide even more vacation (more than 28days). I shouldn’t complain. At the 7year mark I’ll get my 3rd week of vacation (just as likely as the probability of me getting Social Security at 65).

My brother-in-law and his wife lived in Luxembourg for a few years. They would get gobs of vacation time, and Europeans have no idea how Americans live with so little vacation.
On the other hand, it could be what makes this country more competitive business-wise.

There’s a balance though. Right now that view looks great as I struggle with 2 weeks of vacation that I have to beg to take.

When I was working in Europe, I got 3 weeks of vacation – that was sweet, now I have 5 sick days a year back in US
That’s why people in the USA are more stressed and shoot each other…

Don’t forget people in your office will wonder what the heck is wrong with you if you even use all your sick days!
