Revlayer just launched and they offer a very simple solution to monetize videos on your website. Now you can make a nickel or two off of those cool youTube videos you have posted on your site.
Their website needs a little more work to make it more usable such as how to setup your blog with Revlayer. I ultimately did find a video on their site that shows how to integrate with Wordpress. Unfortunately it doesn’t play well with my myvideo plugin to simplify insertion of youtube/Google Video. For the time being I’m not going to use Revlayer as it would mean all my videos being disabled. Also Revlayer is not disclosing any sort of payout scheme. “You generate revenue from these impressions.” is pretty vague and not convincing.
For those of you that would like to monetize your blog this is another tool in your blog toolkit.
In a nutshell to setup monetization of your Wordpress blog videos with Revlayer:
- Sign up. They ask for you address since they will be sending you a check hopefully. The process takes under a minute.
- Choose your plan. There are 2. Revlayer currently offers two subscription options:
- Option A utilizes the Revlayer ad network to provide ads on all impressions. You generate revenue from these impressions.
- Option B will display your advertisement 15 out of 20 times and a Revlayer house advertisement the other 5 out of 20 times.
- Grab the generated code and paste it in your header.php file just above the /head tag.
- Now all new videos you add will automatically utilize the Revlayer ad network.
Here is a setup video from the revlayer website.
** Update: 7/19/07 - For those of you who saw this post a few days ago, Revlayer used to be called Prerollr. In true startup fashion everything is changable in the beginning. I have updated the info in the post to reflect the new name per the company’s name change statement.

Hi Dax Desai,
Glad to see you are using my myVideo plug-in.
There seems to be a never ending list of video websites out there with new ones popping up all the time, over the next few weeks I plan to expand the myVideo plug-in to support videos from http://www.break.com, http://www.vimeo.com, jumpcut.com, blip.tv, one.revver.com and http://www.ifilm.com. And after reading your article I have decided to add support for http://www.revlayer.com to the list.
Give me a few days to make the update, you will be able to download the plug-in from http://www.ozblog.com.au/?p=40
